Why ?
On top of that Pilates is also a great way to develop mind body connection. Moving slowly and mindfully enables us to “feel” what’s going on in the body and connect the brain to the motions and physical sensations. It is using mindful movement to mobilise the plasticity of the brain. And by moving slowly we spend more time under tension which will strengthen the muscles.
This develops proprioception (the awareness of the body in space) and trains the brain to recruit the right muscles and move more safely in daily life when things are fast paced. It also teaches us to “listen” to our bodies.
In India, children learn Yoga from a young age, in China they learn Tai Chi… In our western societies we are not told how to connect to our bodies. All we ask from them is performance without ever giving much back.
These wonderful bodies enable us to run, jump, hug, laugh… and so much more. Regular Physical Exercise and Pilates is a beautiful way to stay strong, alert and mobile.
